316L Stainless steel bar bars

316L stainless steel belongs to austenitic stainless steel. The structure of austenitic stainless steel is face-centered cubic lattice, non-magnetic, and cannot be strengthened by heat treatment. Its strength can only be improved by cold working strengthening. Austenitic stainless steel has corrosion resistance, good plasticity and toughness at room and low temperatures, is easy to form, and has good weldability. It is the most widely used in industry. Its output accounts for about 70% of stainless steel output. Its products include plates, bars, steel pipes, steel strips, steel wires and forgings, etc.

316L stainless steel bar is an ultra-low carbon austenitic stainless steel represented by 00Cr17Ni14Mo2. Its characteristics are mainly reflected in three aspects: corrosion resistance, mechanical properties and processing characteristics:

Corrosion resistance
316L stainless steel contains molybdenum (2%-3%) and ultra-low carbon (carbon content ≤0.03%), which significantly improves the resistance to intergranular corrosion, and is especially suitable for strong corrosive environments such as seawater and chlorides. Compared with ordinary 316 stainless steel, it has better resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. ‌

Mechanical properties
Tensile strength ≥480 MPa, elongation ≥40%, hardness ≤187 HB, with both high strength and plasticity. After solution treatment at 1010-1150℃, a stable austenitic structure is formed, and good mechanical properties are maintained at high temperature (about 427℃). ‌

Processing characteristics
It can be made into various forms such as round bars and square bars through hot rolling, cold drawing and other processes, and it is easy to form complex parts. Suitable for welding structural parts, but care must be taken to avoid the risk of intergranular corrosion (such as solution treatment after welding). ‌

Main application areas include:
Chemical/Petroleum: corrosion-resistant pipelines, storage tanks, reactors ‌
Marine engineering: ship components, submarine pipelines ‌
Medical/Food: surgical instruments, food processing equipment ‌
