SS 409 stainless steel wire rods

SS409 stainless steel is an economical ferritic stainless steel known for its good corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance and low cost. SS409 stainless steel has a low carbon content, usually less than or equal to 0.03%, and a chromium content between 17.0-19.0%. It also contains elements such as manganese, silicon, nickel, phosphorus, sulfur and titanium, and the content of each element is strictly regulated. For example, the carbon content does not exceed 0.08%, the manganese and silicon contents do not exceed 1.00% respectively, and the nickel content does not exceed 0.50%. The yield strength of SS409 stainless steel must be greater than or equal to 175MPa, the tensile strength must be greater than or equal to 360MPa, and the elongation must be greater than or equal to 25%. Due to its good high temperature resistance, SS409 stainless steel is often used in automotive exhaust systems to improve the efficiency of the system and reduce exhaust emissions. In addition, it is also suitable for equipment that requires high temperature resistance, such as household heating furnaces, farm equipment and fuel filters.

Features of SS409 stainless steel wire rod:

Low cost: SS409 stainless steel wire rod has a relatively low production cost due to its composition design, which makes it economically advantageous in many applications.

Good heat resistance: SS409 stainless steel wire rod can withstand high temperatures and is suitable for applications in high temperature environments. It can form a dense oxide film at high temperatures to prevent further oxidation reactions

Moderate corrosion resistance: Although the chromium and nickel content of SS409 is relatively low, resulting in its corrosion resistance not as good as some advanced stainless steels, it still has a certain corrosion resistance, especially in sulfide-containing media.

Good processability: In most cases, SS409 stainless steel wire rod can be preheated (150 to 260 degrees Celsius) to improve its welding performance. In addition, it requires moderate preheating during the forming process to avoid metal damage.

Wide application fields: Due to its good heat resistance and economy, SS409 stainless steel wire rod is often used in automobile manufacturing, pipelines, engine components and other fields. For example, it is often used to manufacture components in automobile exhaust systems.

Chemical composition: The main chemical composition of SS409 includes Fe, 0.08%C, 10.5-11.75%Cr, 0.5%Ni, 1.0%Mn, 1.0%Si, 0.045%P, 0.03%S and 6x%C-0.75%Ti. These components give it specific physical and chemical properties.

Surface treatment: SS409 stainless steel wire rod may have a rough surface during processing, which needs to be cleaned by grinding, electropolishing or shot peening to ensure surface quality
